1961 Volkswagen T1 Bus, 15-Windows

Presenting a remarkable 1961 Volkswagen T1, with 15 windows, truly one-of-a-kind. It showcases a walk-through cabin design and is adorned in an elegant combination of Pearl White and Turquoise Green. Originally sold in California, this van has since ventured to Washington State in 2008, and eventually settled in Tennessee. A cosmetic restoration took place in the 1980s, and more recently, it has been equipped with a 1,915cc flat-four engine and a 4-speed Freeway Flyer gearbox. The vehicle boasts various upgrades such as lowered suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, widened steel wheels, period accessories, and more. In 2018, fresh whitewall tires were added along with a pair of Weber carburetors from CB Performance. Recent servicing, including a tune-up, valve adjustment, and oil change, further enhances its performance. This split-window Bus, accompanied by 20 years of service records, is now available through the selling dealer in Tennessee, and comes with a clean Tennessee title.

According to the selling dealer, and the records, the original color of this bus was Sealing Wax Red, but it underwent a repaint in the stunning Turquoise Green and Pearl White combination during the 1980s. The body is adorned with pop-out safari windows, Deluxe trim, Bosch European headlights, and a Westfalia-style luggage rack.

The bus is fitted with widened 15" steel wheels from DeepVeez, wrapped in whitewall tires that were installed in 2017. To achieve a lowered ride height, a post-1967 narrowed front axle beam and adjustable rear swing-axle plates have been utilized.
Inside the walk-through cabin, you'll find Como Green upholstery, a center row of seating, and a carpeted rear compartment featuring a period Thermos cooler. Photos of the sheet metal floors can be seen in the provided gallery.

Adorning the Pearl White dash are a Blaupunkt radio, chrome ashtray, fuel gauge, and factory clock. Additionally, accessory ambulance fans have been installed on the ceiling, although they are not currently wired. The 5-digit odometer shows approximately 5,000 miles, with the actual mileage unknown. Beneath the body-colored cooling shroud resides a 1,915cc flat-four engine constructed by Franklin's VW Werks in Kent, Washington. In 2018, it received a new set of dual 40mm Webers from CB Performance. This remarkable engine is equipped with a 95-amp alternator, Engle camshaft, electronic ignition, full-flow oil filter, deep sump, and ceramic coated headers and muffler. You can witness the engine running in the video provided. Alongside the carburetor installation, a tune-up, valve adjustment, and oil change were professionally carried out. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a rebuilt 4-speed Freeway Flyer transaxle, which was completed approximately six years and 300 miles ago, according to the selling dealer. To enhance braking performance, four-wheel disc brakes from a later-model T3 have replaced the factory drums. The braking system includes a dual-circuit master cylinder and braided stainless hoses.
